At the beginning of 2008 I received planning permission for a new 13M high mast. This will support a Hexbeam and a 6M Yagi.
To install a new mast you first need hole! |
Mine is 100ft or 30M away from my house. |
Install the shuttering around the hole, don't forget the quadrant around the edge. |
I'm thinking ahead here and as well as the socket for the slim-line mast I'm going to install four x M24 foundation bolts, just in case I need to change the mast at a later date. The nails mark the centres for the M25 holes, here the foundation bolts will dangle down into the concrete. |
Here is the 100mm wide post and it's socket. There were made by Henry Cooch ltd. |
Here the socket is resting on a galvanised steel support and the post is resting on some cross-timbers. This way I could be sure that the post and the socket were vertical. |
A closeup of the supporting frame, note the plastic cable ducting, these short pieces were retrieved from a skip. |
A hole of 2 cubic metres requires 4 tonnes of concrete. This was mixed at a ratio of 1-1/2 cement, 2 sharp sand and 4 ballast. This took 3 people about 5-1/2 hours. |
The finished result, now to tidy up the garden and install the mast and the aerials. |
